    1. 3.5 starsIn this fourth book in the series, Police Chief Kate Burkholder of Painter s Mill, Ohio assists the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation BCI in their search for missing Amish girls Kate was raised Amish and speaks Pennsylvania Dutch, so she can help interview Amish people who normally eschew interaction with the English The book opens with a dramatic scene in which an Amish girl distraught about long term sexual abuse by her brother commits suicide by jumping into an ice fishing hole o [...]

Originally posted on The Book NymphoKate Burkholder is called in as a consultant with John Tomasetti when several Amish girls have gone missing What follows is an unsettling dive into the girls activities prior to their disappearance and the troubling relationships they d formed The prologue sets the tone for this disturbing story and was always in the background as the investigation proceeded There are plenty of red herrings but the clues helped eliminate suspects and focus on the remaining How [...]

    3. Chief of Police Kate Burkholder received a call from Agent John Tomasetti with a request for her to join his colleagues to assist in a case that was puzzling them all young teenagers were going missing, and it seemed their only connection to each other was that they were Amish With Kate having been informed of a missing Amish teen just that morning in Painter s Mill, the likenesses were chilling Leaving Detective Glock in charge, and only a phone call away 24 7, Kate drove the one hundred miles [...]

    4. I won this ARC copy of Gone Missing on a Giveaway which did not influence my review.I am fan of this series, but this latest entry was a disappointment to me on various levels First off, I hope that the book goes through another editing before the final edition goes to print, because there were so many dropped words and misspelled words or incorrect words used that I had to stop myself from grabbing a red pencil and correcting them Next, the writing was repetitive I lost count of how many times [...]

    5. As a big fan of the Kate Burkholder Amish thriller series by Linda Castillo, I was excited to get started on the fourth installment, Gone Missing It begins promising enough with the prologue Becca had always known her life would always end in tragedy As a child, she couldn t speak to her certainty of her fate or explain how she could foresee such a thing She believed in providence, and it came as no surprise when she realized she would also die young Castillo sets the scene as in the previous th [...]

    6. In her latest novel, Linda Castillo again creates a world of thrilling suspense and intrigue flavored with a spicy side of sizzle that leaves readers hungry for Her strong protagonist,Kate Burkholder, approaches her latest case with tenacity tempered with compassion Her complicated and precarious balance as a small town police cheif, who happens to be formerly Amish,is challenged in new and uncertain directions as her relationship with the edgy state agent John Tomasetti begins to take on a lif [...]

    7. This book got off to a great start, grabbing my attention with the first line in the prologue, Becca had always known her life would end in tragedy I could feel Becca s pain and sadness, and eagerly went through the chapters wanting to see justice served against those that had made her life a misery, but about halfway through the book, it began to drag, and became repetitive, to the point I was skimming through the pages, until it again began to build to a nail bitting end, but found the finale [...]

    8. My looooong thoughts on Gone Missing I enjoyed the latest in this Amish mystery series I ve read all the previous books as well The story was complex and had enough twists to keep me guessing for a bit who the murderer s was were I definitely recommend the book to anyone who is interested in detective stories or those set in Ohio and or with Amish settings I also really enjoyed the dialogue between Tomasetti and Kate I do have a few quibbles though Linda Castillo needs a better editor There were [...]

    9. Another gripping, tension filled book by Linda Castillo, number four in the Kate Burkholder books.Rumspringa is the time when Amish teens are allowed to experience life without the rules It s an exciting time of personal discovery and growth before committing to the church But when a young teen disappears without a trace, the carefree fun comes to an abrupt and sinister end, and fear spreads through the community like a contagion A missing child is a nightmare to all parents, and never so than [...]

    10. One of my favorite series This is a 4 star read, but I m throwing in another star for the combination of the other 3 books, this one and of course the future books to come For those who never picked up this series, I would suggest you start from book one, for the characters are developing as you read on like in most series Great read

    11. 4.0 StarsThis is yet another gripping novel in the Kate Burkholder series The setup of the mystery and investigation are slightly different than in the previous books, which helps to keep the series fresh The author is so skilled at writing well constructed mysteries, which continue to delight and surprise readers I can t stop recommending this series

    12. Gone Missing4 StarsA series of disappearances of Amish teenagers leads state agent John Tomasetti to request the expertise of Painter s Mill Chief of Police Kate Burkholder As the two investigate, it becomes clear that dark secrets exist in any community as does the willingness to kill The investigation into the missing teens is absorbing with numerous twists and turns as well as several promising red herrings Nevertheless, there are insufficient clues to figure out who is responsible and too ma [...]

    13. The ending of this book saved it Obviously, a story to be continued.Aside from that as far as I was concerned the first 3 4 s of this book was trite andrepetitive I ve liked this Castillo series in the past, but had this been my first read by this author I would never have finished it.Spoiler alert it wasn t until page 195 that Kate found the clue that was the key to the case She said, I found the connection, I say without preamble The missing teenagers were breaking the rules They were misbehav [...]

    14. This was a great addition to the Kate Burkholder lexicon This series just improves with each tale told Peeks into the light dark of the Amish community, amazingly real characters, suspense, mystery and the ever burgeoning love story of two broken people always in the background.Ms Castillo is very adept at weaving the pieces into rich, satisfying and beautiful tapestry.I am already waiting impatiently waiting for the next leg of the journey.

    15. I do enjoy the characters, the setting, and the premise of this series But this might be the last one I can read about young Amish girls being sexually exploited or savagely treated There HAS to be another storyline available, not to mention victim. Also, I get bogged down in the descriptions sometimes I get it They re Plain.

    16. A missing child is a nightmare to all parents, and never so than in the Amish community, where family ties run deep When the search for the presumed runaway turns up a dead body, the case quickly becomes a murder investigation And chief of Police Kate Burkholder knows that in order to solve this case she will have to call upon everything she has to give not only as a cop, but as a woman whose own Amish roots run deep After reading the last book in this series I almost gave up on it Kate was jus [...]

    17. Gone Missing by Linda Castillo, published by Minotaur Books.Category Mystery ThrillerKate Burkholder, as you know, is the subject of four books by Linda Castillo The stories are very unusual in that they take place in the Amish country of Ohio Kate is the Chief of Police at Painters Mill, an Amish Community in rural Ohio Kate was hired by Painters Mill because she was Amish but due to circumstances left the community Kate, due her background, is able to communicate with the Amish The Amish are a [...]

    18. I wasn t mad keen on the third book in this series and having got this one out of the library I was happy not to have paid any money for it.A wafer thin plot stretches out across what felt like a pretty short novel light on characterisation and heavy on repetition of descriptions, explanations and an overview of what everyone was wearing I suspect the Amish hook to these novels might be limiting things slightly, at first it provided an original and interesting setting, now it s merely tiresome a [...]

    19. I came across this series just recently, which means I had the pleasure of reading all four of the existing Kate Burkholder books back to back The stories are filled with suspense, and Castillo s characters are intelligent and very human, warts and all Kate Burkholder is solid, but with a troubled past that continues to haunt, and John Tomasetti is marvelous and sexy, albeit deeply scarred by his own tragic past The assorted supporting characters are equally well drawn and fully fleshed This is [...]

    20. The Kate Burkholder Series is great, and I do not think of myself as a series reader but I can t wait to get to the next one of these Castillo paints the fine line that Chief Burkholder walks between the Amish world she grew up in and the Englisher world she is now trying to make her way in.The characters have evolved with each book and they not only deal with murders but the baggage of their own pasts Castillo gives us a peek into a whole different lifestyle as well as the politics and practice [...]

    21. 3.75 Stars This one wasn t my favorite in the series, but I still enjoyed it I think I ve been reading these too close together and need to take a little break I just found Kate and her relationship with Tomasetti a little annoying in this one, but the mystery was still really fun I always think I have it all figured out and then she goes and throws in a twist That s one of the things that is so great about this series.

    22. 4th book in Kate Burkholder Amish Series Another solid addition to Castillo s suspenseful and thrilling series A bit of a change in writing style for the author this one was written in first person from Kate s POV It flowed well and worked just fine for me lthough I figured out the culprits fairly early on, there was an unexpected surprise that hit me without a hint near the end I m enjoying the ongoing relationship between Kate and Tomasetti, who seem to finally be at the point of admitting the [...]

    23. Book 4 brings this exciting series back on track The bad people were truly F d up and evil Kate had a personal connection to one of the victims and I think this made the story compelling For once, some of the action takes place away from Painters Mill, and this also brought a new dynamic to the series Looking forward to the next installment.

    24. Gone Missing by Linda Castillo was an okay read but not great Could not connect with the character itself was too slow i hate books that concentrate on describing the flowers trees etc a bit of a letdown as i was eager to read this author for a while a 3 1 2 for me
